People tend to hyper-focus on their performance metrics instead of drivers or capacities to perform. While outcomes and results are always critically important, too much focus on the results versus the capacity to perform tends to bias people toward short term thinking.


This seems to be especially true for public corporations. Amazon, Blackstone and Berkshire Hathaway and a few others are exceptions and have a bias toward long term versus short term success.
